EXPERIENCE AT A FABRIC INDUSTRY

                 

We reached Bombay Rayon Fashion ltd. At 9:50 and we were taken to the admin block.

The General Manager of Human Resource Mr. Khan told us about the industry’s past and its achievements . He also told us about division of work force and the benefits provided to the workers in the industry.

There are 3000 workers in total and 80% of them are women, 20% are men. This shows the importance given to women empowerment in the firm. A medical room is available for the workers and the treatment is free of cost, they have a qualified doctor who is available through out the working hours and an ambulance is also handy in case of emergencies. The workers are also provided free transportation. There is a Child Care Center (crèche) for the workers children who are below 6, so that their parents can work without any worry.

Mr. Khan aims at retaining the employees by giving them good compensation for their hard work. The workers are paid double for performing double time tasks i.e. Rs.1000 and they are provided with various benefits like Provident Fund (which can be withdrawn anytime, if necessary). They are paid attendance bonus if they work for the entire month without any holidays. They don’t have a problem of absenteeism since they take care of their employees and their needs. “Absenteeism rate is only 5% in our firm,” said Mr. Khan.

So, that was a glimpse into the Human Resource Management of the firm.

After that, we were told about the various sections under production department. A cloth material has to pass through all these sections to turn into a finished garment.

The sections are-: 1. Fabric section, 2. Cutting section, 3.CAD, 4. Sampling section, 5.sewing section(manual and electrical), 6.buttoning section, 7.ironing section, 8.finishing section, 9.packing section and dispatch.

After the induction we split into 2 groups and headed to see the functioning of the fabric Industry.

FABRIC DEPARTMENT

In this department various types of cloth materials and designs are kept in display. Many reputed companies like H&M, GAP come and place their orders over here. Once the vendor places the order and selects the fabric, it is checked in the inspection machine and there are various kinds of defects that are looked for. A material is accepted and taken forward for cutting if it has less than 10% defects, if not, the material is rejected. After inspection the shrinkage is also tested. They send the cloth material for washing and the amount of shrinkage is seen and based on that extra length is added so that the cloth will reach its ideal size after wash instead of becoming too small.

C.A.D(computer aided design)

After the checking the fabric moves to the C.A.D where the vendors give samples of the designs they want and the size ratio(small, large, medium). The workers create  digital layouts of the sample design in the computer to make the cutting process easier. Different parts of the garment are carefully adjusted according to the size on the fabric to avoid any kind of wastage. After creating the C.A.D the plotter machine prints out the design. A sample is made and shown to the vendor and if they agree, the garment moves to the cutting area.

CUTTING SECTION

The garments are cut using the CAD printouts as guidance. The various parts of the garment like the sleeves, collars, cuffs are cut using band knife machines and trolleys are kept in handy so that it is easier to carry them to the next section. All the pieces are segregated based on their size and are bundled together. After all the parts of a garment are cut they are moved to the stitching section.

STITCHING SECTION

In this section all the parts of the garments are first stitched separately to give them the shape. Various busy hands work on them. A section of people work on collars, a section of people work on cuffs and  so on. After the parts are stitched they move on for assembling. One part is attached to another part by one worker and then automated machines carry it to the other worker who attaches another part and it continues till the garment is complete .

BUTTONING AND IRONING SECTION

All the garments move to the buttoning section. After the buttons are sewed in place, the workers manually iron the garments and they come out looking fresh and crisp.

 DUST REMOVING AND METAL DETECTION

After every thing is done the garments are moved through dust removing machine to remove any kind of dirt and then it is sent through metal detection machine because if the vendors find any metal pieces in the clothes they can claim money form the firm. So, they have to be very careful so as to not leave any kind of metals in the garments.

PACKAGING SECTION

This is the last process in production. First the sleeves  are folded, then a hard tag is attached to each and every garment , the top side is dusted again, the size tags are fixed and then labels are checked. Finally the clothes are folded and put into poly bags. All the poly bags are then placed into different carton boxes based on their size. That is the end of production process. After this one sample is sent to the vendor for final checking called the clock checking. In this process they check if all the parts and all the tags and labels are present in the garment. Once approved, the goods are dispatched to their respective companies.

That is how many stages a single garment has to pass through to reach us. This visit was a very informative and insightful visit for all of us. We got to learn and see the various steps involved in the production process  and also the the way the workers are managed and compensated in the firm.

“There is no force greater than a women determined to rise”. When women take up something in their hands its sure to turn into gold. lets talk about this in the context of business world. According to the source “Global entrepreneurship Monitor”  98 million women are operating  established businesses all over the world and 126 million are starting their businesses. That is, 224 million women have already impacted the business world

Women are capable of achieving so much more ,but  sometimes the spark of new ideas for a business in a women’s mind are put out because of various reasons, be it self doubt or the burden of the family and society. Here are some things young women can do to turn the spark into a luminous fire which can guide millions of other women too.

1. First things first, one has to believe in herself in order for the others to believe in her. So, remove all the self doubt you have in your mind because if you are capable of dreaming ,you are capable of achieving.

2. Surround yourself by people who encourage you and motivate you because support is one of the most important things when you are venturing into business or any other aspect of your life.

3. Don’t be afraid to take risks. When you know that the risks you take can lead you to success then go for it! But beware of the risks which might knock you off your feet and make it hard for you to get back up, be it financial or social etc.

4. If you fail, don’t lose hope. Failure helps you realize the true value of success and learn from your mistakes. Persistence is the boat that will keep you floating in the ocean of hardship till you reach your destination.

5. along with personal success think of betterment of the society. Remember, society contributes to your success, so its your duty to help it . Nothing is more satisfying than giving back to the society.

6. build network. The more people you know the more beneficial  it is for your business. Network can help you in many ways, from getting finance to promoting your business and so much more.

7. keep learning and take feedback. Business world is dynamic and you need to keep learning and developing accordingly or else you will be left behind. Feedback will help you improve on your shortcomings and reach greater heights. Feedback might help you look at the things from a consumers perspective hence improving your products or services.

8. work hard or smart. To run a successful business one needs to work really hard because it does not come easily. But there are some times when hard work does not help so that’s when smart work comes in. these days smart work overpowers hard work. Increasing the efficiency with as little work as possible is the mantra, so that the saved time can be utilized towards something more important.

These were 8 out of many tips by which a women or anyone can achieve success in the business world. All you need to do is keep going because success awaits those who don’t give up.

How AI is helping the commerce world

In order to read and understand this we need to know what commerce and AI is. 

commerce is the trade in goods and services and all the activities involved in it. Now, coming to artificial intelligence, it refers to the intelligence demonstrated by machines. This intelligence is obtained by all the data and algorithms we humans enter into them. Through these algorithms and data the machines are getting smarter than ever before. In fact, they have outrun the humans in some of the fields

These days  AI has spread its wings into various sectors, commerce is one of them. AI has proved to be very useful in this field. AI helps a company analyse  the trends, the buying patterns of the consumers and many other things which are leading the companies towards greater profits. In olden days a producer used to make the goods and then take them to the market. But now, the producer needs to understand the demand of the consumers in order to make a product and AI  helps them analyse the market by using the humongous amount of data available in the shortest span of time. All the data regarding the sales and all other transactions involved in commerce would take ages to be analysed by humans, but with AI's help all this is possible in a mere matter of seconds. And there are very less chances of errors being introduced during this process. AI also provides customer care services and free us from this task, thanks to their question understanding and answering ability. For example, chat bots are created to reply to all the questions a customer has. We can leave these tasks to AI and utilize that time for something more productive. AI also provides the company with best decisions by analysing various aspects of the situation and the credit goes to AI's decision making ability.It also collects useful information from the consumers and provide the seller with a better understanding of the consumer. AI shows the consumers what they want to see and buy through the data AI gets from them. It allures the consumer. Machine learning  helps in taking corrective measures by using previous data where we went wrong and learn from our mistakes. automation is being use to manufacture goods and robotics is being used for delivery and transportation now a days.

AI has truly influenced the commerce field, it has paved a path towards better future.

Is AI a threat to us?

Everything has some drawbacks to it, so does AI. Machines are as smart as the data they receive and they cannot distinguish between right and wrong. the data is put into them by humans and this can lead to bias and errors. Sometimes AI in the hands of wrong people can be lethal. But, there are laws governing AI. There are rules regarding what kind of AI are created and how, when and where they are supposed to be used. So, this problem is kept quite under control.

The biggest threat we feel is that we humans might lose our jobs. We think that because of AI all the jobs are slipping through human hands and are falling into artificial hands. People will prefer them more than humans because they are pinpoint accurate and can work 24/7 and that will lead to greater production and profits in no time. 

But, i feel that we don't have to worry about giving up our jobs because we are the smartest animals and we are meant to evolve and grow in every aspect. Lets take an example of olden days, we had different kinds of jobs before there was no technology. but, after a few years we left those jobs up to machines as new technologies were discovered, jobs like washing clothes, weaving, transportation and many other things. We found and worked for something more evolved. Now if AI takes our current jobs we will find something even better and important. I feel AI is just a helping hand. Humans possess something that AI can never imitate ,that is, creativity. So, we can use it to our advantage. AI's knowledge is only limited to what already exists but we have the potential to explore and discover the vast possibilities. I am sure future will give rise to new discoveries and we can explore them and create employment out of them. But, we will always need the help of the machines to achieve what we want. Now is the time for us to hold hands with the artificial hand and walk on the path which leads to a better future!

AN IMPORTANT LESSON

Even though Abdul Kalam is not among us today, he has left behind thousands and millions of young ignited minds and voices which speak for him.

Hi guys! Today I will share my opinion on how we 'the youth of India' can work towards making Abdul Kalam's and our biggest dream come true,that is,seeing our India as a developed nation. But the question is 'how?'

Just the other day I was sitting in one of my Chartered Accountancy classes and our teacher was telling us about achievers and he spoke about Abdul Kalam. He told us "Kalam always thought what he could give to everyone rather than what he could get from them. He never expected anything in return" and in that one statement I could see the answer to the question 'how'.

I am sure many of us think "I want this, I want that", but how many of us have ever thought "I want to give something". Not many of us. When this changes, we will take our first step towards the betterment of our country and the world.

We all have found ourselves guilty of saying "India's education system is not good enough" then why don't we change it ourselves? We say "Indian politics is a dirty game" why not we make it a fair game? If we couldn't be on the receiving end let's be on the giving end and let others receive what we couldn't. I don't think Abdul Kalam received the best of everything, but he did give the best . When we start giving we will effect the entire population in a positive way which will lead to a chain reaction and that is how we will lead India towards the brightest future.

Instead of complaining about the wrongs why don't we start with the change. If it is for a right cause you will never face disappointment. .Our country needs people who can uphold its prosperity and lead it to  complete development. we can be those people. Give your best in everything you do.

Till now we have received, now is the time to give our best because when we give our best then our nation will receive the best and when our nation receives the best then the entire world will receive the best.

So the thing I learned from Abdul kalam is ' always give!'
